Radtek, RT, Arts, BED on candidate status
If this is not living up to this year’s theme “Breakthrough”, we don’t know what is.
October 12, 2009 serves as yet another milestone for CEFI as it formally became the first higher education institution (HEI) in Quezon Province with a Nursing program accredited by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).
PACUCOA’s certificate issued on the said date granted the Level 1 accredited status to CEFI’s BS Nursing program effective Oct. 2009 to Oct. 2012.
Likewise, the accrediting body simultaneously conferred the Level 1 candidate status on CEFI’s Liberal Arts and Radiologic Technology programs, as well as the High School and Elementary departments.
All said programs and departments passed all the accreditation criteria namely, (1) Purposes and Objectives, (2) Faculty, (3) Instruction, (4) Library, (5) Laboratories, (6) Physical Plant and Facilities, (7) Student Services Administration, (8) Social Orientation and Community Involvement, and (9) Organization and Administration.
BS Nursing qualified for Level 1 with an average of 3.50, scoring highest under Organization and Administration (3.81) and Faculty (3.59).
President Atty. Ronaldo Antonio DV. Calayan called these figures a testament to the “flexibility and dynamism” of the institution’s leadership, as well as to the quality of the school’s teaching manpower.
Atty. Calayan also expressed that as a pioneer institution (CEFI offered BS Nursing ahead of other HEIs in Quezon Province), it is but fitting that the school should also be at the forefront of nursing and paramedical education.
“Considering that the PACUCOA granted BS Nursing the candidate status only last January, the program’s ascension to Level 1 was set at record pace”, added Dr. Buzar.
On average, progressing from a candidate to an accredited status under the PACUCOA takes two to three years.
Dr. Buzar, himself the PACUCOA vice-chairman, stressed that accreditation “serves as an excellent quality assurance mechanism”.
“Through accreditation, we can easily and objectively compare the quality of our programs with those of other accredited schools. It also effectively lays the groundwork upon which we can set our future goals as an institution”, he elaborated.
According to CEFI’s Five-Year Thrust, the institution aims to have all programs accredited by the year 2014.
